I don't know if it's an intended feature, but when you tick "You can hide your avatar so that only the background is visible." tickbox - your avatar gets removed everywhere else (shoutbox, profile, etc), not only posts.
Perhaps adjusting it or adding additional tickbox it so that the usual avatar shows normally on shoutbox, profile and everywhere else, while the postbit one shows only on posts.
