Something super weird happened to me yesterday and I honestly have no idea how to deal with it. I got into a car accident — nothing too major, thankfully no one hurt — but the other driver had diplomatic license plates. The guy barely said anything, showed me some ID that honestly didn’t mean much to me, and left after the cops arrived. The police didn’t seem too eager to get involved either. Do the same rules apply? Can I even file a claim, or is this some sort of untouchable situation? Would appreciate if someone could share some experience or at least point me in the right direction.

What to do if the culprit in an accident is a driver with diplomatic license plates?

Honestly depends on what diplomatic status are we talking about, You can file a claim but you would need to know the details of drive. If youve a number plate maybe I can get his address and diplomatic status

Yeah, that’s definitely a tricky one… I had a buddy who went through almost the same mess a couple of years back. His car got rear-ended by a vehicle with diplomatic plates, and it turned out way more complicated than a normal accident. Diplomats have certain legal protections, so things don’t always work like they do with regular drivers. But that doesn’t mean you’re completely stuck.
In his case, the key was getting proper legal advice early on, because trying to deal with it alone was pointless. There are lawyers who specifically handle these kinds of situations — I remember he found useful info on 99 legal. They explain what your options are when dealing with diplomatic immunity and how to proceed with your claim, if possible. |
