The first thing has to be to admit . It will be shameful to classify yourself as an addict but without admitting , you won’t take it seriously . Avoiding the issue will make it worse. The first barrier is yourself .
The next thing is intention . In this sub the posts have increased about girls and super powers . Most of you would have already realised the negative impacts of porn otherwise you wouldn't be here. Make it an objective to remove the symptoms and improve yourself . You need to realise if you don’t do it for yourself , there is no point . Your reason for abstaining from porn might end . It won’t last . You might be lucky to make it 50/60 days but then will relapse. This isn’t about streaks but about ending it all together.
From the start you need to know that this will not happen on your first attempt. The damage done will not simply be wiped away . Especially given the first 2 weeks are the hardest . It will be hell and I’m not going to deny it . However after tasting the sweetness of what follows , you won’t regret putting yourself through that . I can promise you that. There will be withdrawal symptoms and you will feel like you are going crazy and the only thing on your mind will be to indulge in your desires . You have to fight through that and it will get easier . You must strive .
Key #1 is do not even consider a peek . Again this mentality will cause failure . Shut down the thought immediately.
Key #2 is do not focus on the streak . That will not help . You need to combat urges by realising the negative impacts it has on your self esteem , mental health and thoughts . The best approach is doing so much that you forget you are on a streak . The environment you live in must change as you progress . Wake up early . Clean your room . Start taking care of your body . Pray . Changes outside of NoFap must be made . Just removing PMO and adding nothing beneficial to your lifestyle won’t last . Slowly but surely . The end goal is to get rid of the filth and improve your life , not the streak .
Take it day by day but not hour by hour . After the first 3 weeks it shouldn’t be on your mind constantly . There is only so much you can take before you cave in . It’s human nature . Do not think you are different or better because you’re battling more thoughts . You will fail . Don’t invite pressure .
Physical aspects
Do something ! The devil makes work for idle hands . Whether it’s exercising , reading , learning or even gaming .
Key #3 especially for the first 21 days is to block Chrome from your phone . I advise you create an account for YouTube and subscribe to channels of your interest . This way you will avoid any unwanted videos . Even the smallest of triggers will cause you to fail . Keep in mind this is an addiction and requires "extreme" precautions . The restriction can be lifted in the future when you feel in more control of your actions .
Key #4 delete any bookmarks and throw away any collections you may have . Linking back to intention , you must burn those bridges . Deep down inside you know you will turn back to the videos later on and that is why you did not get rid of them. Go in with the full intention of leaving this behind . It doesn’t matter how much was spent ( time or money ) . Why keep something that you’ve built if it damages you ?
Key #5 is don’t stay inside your room for long . The majority of urges will occur in seclusion . During the earlier stages , urges will be stronger therefore require more drastic reactions such as push ups or changing the activity you were doing completely. Leave your room immediately whenever you have an urge . Go talk to family or friends .
Key #6 if you see anything that triggers an urge , close the tab and shut the device . Do something away from that area .
Key #7 no phone in bed . Probably the easiest way to relapse when it is dark and everyone is asleep . You will also disrupt your sleeping pattern due to blue light suppressing melatonin .
Key #8 do not follow channels/accounts just for the person’s appearance. Don’t lie to yourself . You aren’t interested in the person inside but what’s outside . This mindset needs to be developed .
Adding onto this , do not “test” yourself to see if you have improved in battling your urges . Similar to peeking , you will fail . It might not happen on the first occasion but eventually you will go back to where you started . The biggest mistake would be assuming you have beaten this addiction and start picking up old habits.
Key #9 is avoid social media unless for communication . Do not surf especially on Instagram. That has just a bad effect as porn however that’s a different topic .
Key #10 is an unusual tip however go to the toilet to pee when you have an urge . I’ve found that sometimes an urge can be pressure on the bladder. Test it out for yourself. I'm not sure how effective this might be for the women of NoFap .
