What’s better: numbering boxes or naming them by room?

I’ve been packing for my upcoming move and honestly can’t decide if I should number my boxes or just label them by room. The last time I moved, I tried the numbering method and kept a separate list with contents, but it got messy quickly — I kept misplacing the list or forgetting to update it. I’m leaning toward just writing “Kitchen,” “Bedroom,” etc., directly on the boxes and maybe a quick note about what’s inside. Has anyone here found one method to be way better than the other?
