Telegram: Still the Privacy King, or an OPSEC Nightmare?

Is telegram still the best privacy messaging client?
 I’ve been weighing my options and wanted to get the community’s take on my thoughts:

• Telegram offers convenience and features, but its encryption model (MTProto, non-E2EE by default) raises questions and the current state of affairs with bans happening left and right, and other political issues makes me cautious to use it.
  
• Signal is the gold standard for security, but I find its UI clunky and its feature set limited, maybe this is something I'll just have to compromise on and settle in. BUT:
  
• Matrix (paired with Element) seems like a promising middle ground—self-hostable, decentralized, and Discord-like in flexibility.
  

Would love to hear your experiences or recommendations.

You can check this book , it is interesting and has everything. My OPSEC is currently bad as I said because I don't have choice but this will really help you. It has a part about messaging plateforms

Perfect, just the answer I was looking for. In fact I was just writing on another forum how I was looking for an OPSEC guide so this is great timing.

I think OPSEC is very underrated and under achieved. It is so important especially in early days as Lucas's arrest tells us, not to mention Ross Ulbrich.

Telegram and services on them is only ever used for on-boarding to signal for me since it just has more adoption so on boarding to signal is sadly essential.

If there is anything sensitive being shared on Telegram I think you're taking a risk. If you ask most people to make a signal, especially if there is money involved or contact information. people are very happy to have a more secure chat on signal. With the creator of Telegram being basically held hostage in France until he made Telegram insecure any idea of privacy on Telegram should be seen as non exsistant. they have changed their terms and conditions relating to privacy a ridiculous amount since then and 100% have backdoor now opened to those agencies
